Hello, and thanks for visiting! I’m a singer/songwriter/guitarist based in Athens, Ohio, and I want to welcome you to my new website.
This has been in my mind’s eye for a long time. More than a decade ago I discovered that ‘stevezarate.com’ was ‘available,’ staked a claim, paid an annual fee…and lo and behold, in 2020 I found a way to get this built for the use of friends and fans everywhere. I’m delighted to present it and hope you like what you see. This is a place to find my bio, song lyrics, videos, photos, articles, reviews and gig schedule, plus ways to purchase my albums and get in touch. And it‘s also home to this, my new blog page!
I’ve never blogged before, just written various Facebook posts as the spirit moved me. But I’m a writer, I love to write, and I look forward to writing more blog entries in coming months. Most likely I’ll write about my music, how songs got written, what they mean to me, important influences, how I got started on guitar and harmonica, great shows I’ve seen, musical friends, journeys, ambitions, etc.…and I’ll try to keep it interesting and fun to read.
I suspect I’ll write about bicycling too. I recently finished riding 3,900 miles in 260 days of cycling on the Athens-Nelsonville Bike Path, averaging 15 miles every single day from April 2 to December 17. What with all of 2020’s upheaval, I’ve found this to be a wonderful way to stay healthy, grounded and connected to nature. For me the bike path has become a sanctuary where I can think things over, make up new songs in my head or not even think at all and just let birdsong and sweet country air wash through me, and I’ve come to cherish it very much indeed. So I might mention it a time or two. And odds are good I’ll tell you about my time in Alaska as well.
But this site’s main purpose is definitely to promote my music and songwriting, so please check here for news about upcoming recordings, online shows and related projects. To initiate this in a meaningful way, I’m ‘launching’ the site with a Facebook announcement at 5:02 a.m. Eastern Time (USA), 12/21/2020, just as Winter Solstice arrives. The moment when light begins to return synchronizes well with what I hope my music does for listeners. My songs speak of light and kindness as healing energies, and of hope, renewal, perseverance, gratitude, authenticity, magic that happens in a heartbeat and waves of love that wash across our beaches. Positive music for your soul! And who doesn’t need more of that these days? I know I sure do.
I hope coming here helps you find songs you might need to hear, tunes that lift your spirits and lyrics that tickle your fancy…and that my blog page will make you smile a few times too.
